HZ Jazz Band Swings Into Action at the Ellwood City Community Plaza Grand Opening Ceremony on Saturday, June 22nd

The HZ Jazz Band of Harmony and Zelienople will be performing at the Grand Opening of the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Saturday, June 22, 2013. The nineteen member band will perform a variety of jazz and big band tunes starting at approximately 7:00 pm following the ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30 pm and brief comments from local officials.

Directed by Andrew Karns, the HZ Jazz Band is a subsidiary of the Harmony-Zelienople community band directed by Susan Van Arsdale. The HZ Jazz Band has been performing for six years and has added some new members to their 2013 line-up of musicians. They play a variety of musical styles with a focus on contemporary and traditional big band jazz, including music by greats such as Duke Ellington and Buddy Rich. A full swing band is something of a rarity outside of educational settings, giving local listeners a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and passion of both traditional and contemporary jazz sounds.
